Frequently Asked Questions

How long will my platter take?

Each platter is painted to order and will take approximately 3 weeks. If you have a deadline, please call the studio prior to placing an order to confirm we can meet your time frame.

Is my platter hand painted?

Yes, each item is individually painted and glazed by the artist. The nature of the hand painted ceramic process means there may be minor colour and design variations on each item. Minor imperfections can be a characteristic of the process and add to the unique, hand crafted feel of the product.

Does my platter come with a pen?

Yes it comes with one pen but it is advisable to purchase another in case of loss or damage.

What are your platters made from?

All our platters are made from earthenware bisque and once decorated, are glazed with a transparent lead-free glaze. Bisque is fragile, so do treat it carefully and we advise not putting it in the oven or microwave once it's finished. Occasional use is just fine and your platter will last a lifetime if taken care of. Also, unlike porcelain, bisque is more of an ivory colour.  We do not offer any platters that are pure white.

Are the platters food-safe?

Yes.  The platters delivered to you have been glazed and fired just like traditional dinnerware.   To preserve the quality of the guest messages, we recommend the piece be hand washed and not cut with any sharp utensils.

What is the pen used for and how does it work?

The pen is used for writing directly on the platter. It contains a special ink that will become permanent after being heated in the oven for 35 minutes at 150 degrees.  Instructions for using the pen are included in your order.

The pen doesn’t work?

Shake well before use and press the nib down on a piece of paper several times to activate. The ink will then work its way down the nib and be ready for use. Remember to replace the lid when not in use.

What do I do if the pen dries up?

Take a damp tissue and wipe the nozzle free of ink and it should be fine.

What do I do if someone writes something inappropriate?

Don’t panic! The ink is only permanent when it is hardened on in your oven. Take a damp tissue and wipe the ink off, then leave to dry for a few moments.

If I lose the pen, can I use one of my own?

No. The pen contains special ink that becomes permanent when heated in the oven. Ordinary ink pens and markers will not give the same result. Additional pens can be purchased separately. We highly recommend that you purchase an extra pen in case of failure.

How will my platter arrive?

All platters are sent via courier and require a signature upon delivery – Please ensure that you provide a delivery address where someone is available to receive the parcel as failure to do so will result in the parcel being resent incurring a second courier charge. We will notify you before despatch of the delivery date.

Can I send to another address?

Yes, when you fill in your details for billing address, tick the box for delivering to a different address.

Do you send abroad?

At this time we are only able to deliver within the UK.

Will I get an order confirmation?

An email confirmation will be sent within a few minutes after we receive your order.

How many signatures will fit?

Platters can easily accommodate over 250 signatures if both sides are used but less if messages are written as well.

What do I do when my item arrives?

Check immediately and inspect the item for any damage.

What do I do if the item is broken when it arrives?

Contact us immediately.   If the item is damaged upon arrival, keep the box the item came in and contact us via email, or if in opening hours call us on 01737 241567. We will gladly provide you a replacement piece at no charge.

What do I do if the signature platter is broken at the wedding or party?

We understand that accidents do happen.  Though we are unable to replace any signatures or personalisation you may have added to your platter, we would be happy to give you a 50% discount on a replacement piece.  Please contact us by using our online form.
